M+J's Heisman Watch- Week 5

Baker Mayfield- QB- Oklahoma
Mayfield threw for 3 touchdowns and 283 yards in their victory over Baylor. Mayfield has the highest QBR of 93.2 for the second consecutive week. With 13 touchdowns and zero interceptions, Mayfield is currently one of the front runners for the Heisman. Oklahoma is off this week before Iowa State comes to town on October 7th. Another strong performance will help him continue to enhance his Heisman profile as well as keep his team in the race for the College Football Playoff.

Up next: Iowa State- October 7th

Saquon Barkley- RB- Penn State
Barkley came up big in Penn State's thrilling last second victory in Iowa City. With 211 rushing yards and 94 receiving yards on Saturday, he has proven to be dangerous running the football as well as a receiver. With 6 total touchdowns on the season and hurdling Iowa defenders, Barkley is making his case for Heisman as well as keeping his team in the race for the College Football Playoff. A visit from Indiana is next.

Lamar Jackson- QB- Louisville
Jackson broke the career record for most touchdowns all time in Louisville history on Saturday in the victory over Kent State. He threw for another 2 touchdowns and rushed for 1 as well. With 14 total touchdowns and his dual threat ability, Jackson will continue to stay in the hunt for Heisman. Murray State comes to Louisville this weekend and Jackson should have the chance to enhance his stats in what should be a cake walk for the Cardinals.

4 Rashaad Penny- RB- San Diego State
With 716 rushing yards and 87 receiving yards on the season, Penny and the undefeated Aztecs have entered the spotlight. With Donnel Pumphrey gone, Penny has stepped up to the challenge and has been Donnel Pumphrey in their 4 victories. With an average of 7.9 yards per carry, Penny has helped lead his team to big victories over Arizona State, Stanford, and Air Force and also has his team in the hunt for a New Year's Six Bowl. Northern Illinois comes to town this weekend. Can Penny's dominance continue?

5 Sam Darnold- QB- USC
Darnold threw for 2 touchdowns and 223 yards in their victory over Cal. With 9 passing touchdowns and 7 interceptions, he needs to start limiting turnovers. The Trojans are 4-0 and Darnold has been good enough to get them to this point and to keep them in the race for the College Football Playoff. Their biggest test of the season so far awaits this weekend when they travel to Pullman to take on the Cougars. This is a big opportunity for a statement road victory as well as a chance for Darnold to enhance his Heisman profile.
