M+J's College Football Conference Championship Predictions

CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP PREDICTIONS

Pac-12

USC vs Stanford

USC won the season matchup and look to win the Pac-12. Stanford looks to continue the north's dominance over the south. With the Cardinal the King of the North and the Trojans on the Iron Throne in the South, who will claim the championship? Sam Darnold vs Bryce Love should make this an entertaining game.

USC 31, Stanford 27

American

UCF vs Memphis

A battle of ranked opponents in the American Athletic Championship. UCF crushed Memphis in the first meeting and look to finish the regular season undefeated and represent the Group of 5 in the New Years Six' Bowls. The Tigers can spoil the Golden Knights season with a win.

UCF 56, Memphis 38

MAC

Toledo vs Akron

The Rockets beat the Zips in their regular season matchup and look to win the MAC. The Zips at 7-5 play in the MAC Championship for the first time since 2005. Toledo has been a consistent power in the MAC and should be favored in this game. This is the same team that gave Miami FL a run early in the season.

Toledo 41, Akron 24

Conference USA

North Texas vs Florida Atlantic

Lane Kiffin has led the Owls to an undefeated conference play regular season in his first season. FAU dominated North Texas in the first matchup 69-31. This was the only loss in conference play for the Mean Green. Both teams enter at 9-3 with a 10 win season and a conference championship on the line.

Florida Atlantic 49, North Texas 42

Big 12

Oklahoma vs TCU

The Sooners won the regular season matchup and are looking to get back to the playoff after missing it a season ago. Baker Mayfield, the Heisman favorite would like to cement his chances by leading his team to a Big 12 Championship and playoff bid. The Horned Frogs can still sneak their way in the playoff with win as long as other dominos fall their way. The first conference championship since 2010 should be a good one.

Oklahoma 27, TCU 24

SEC

Georgia vs Auburn

The Tigers won the regular season matchup and are coming off an Iron Bowl victory over Alabama and looking to make the playoffs as a 2-loss team. The Bulldogs are looking to avenge their loss to Auburn. The winner will be in the playoff and the loser will be eliminated. With an SEC Championship at stake and a ticket to the College Football Playoff, its going to be a full house in Atlanta.

Georgia 24, Auburn 21

Mountain West

Boise State vs Fresno State

The Bulldogs beat the Broncos last week and will play for the Mountain West Championship this week. The game was played in Fresno. This time it will be in Boise. Advantage goes to the Broncos under these circumstances. The winner likely won't be the Group of 5 champ, but will finish in the Top 25.

Boise State 30, Fresno State 23

ACC

Clemson vs Miami

The Canes fell hard last week against Pitt and now have to beat Clemson in order to make the playoff. The Tigers at number one, can't feel safe with a loss but could still make it if the dominos fell their way. Miami must play better if they want to win. Defense will be the key to this matchup. The defense creating more turnovers will win the ACC.

Clemson 20, Miami 19

Big Ten

Ohio State vs Wisconsin

The Badgers are the only undefeated team outside of UCF. The schedule hasn't been as challenging as others but they are 12-0 and one win away from a playoff appearance. The Buckeyes can spoil the Badgers' chances with a win and could still climb to number 4 but will need enough dominos to fall for this to happen. As one loss Alabama sits at Number 5, will the Big Ten have a playoff team if Ohio State wins?

Wisconsin 28, Ohio State 27

M+J's College Football Upset Watch/Picks- Week 13

UPSET WATCH

Michigan over Ohio State

Ohio State enters the Big Game with a slight chance of making the playoff. Last season, both teams were in the hunt and this game knocked the Wolverines out. Michigan is out for revenge and get to play this one at their house. Ohio State's last road performance was a disaster. Can Michigan get revenge?

Stanford over Notre Dame

Bryce Love and the Cardinal have played well down the stretch and now have an opportunity to eliminate the Irish from playoff contention. Notre Dame has been limping lately but know that this one is a must. Can Stanford spoil the Irish's season?

Auburn over Alabama

The Iron Bowl is always a classic when both are in contention. The Kick Six is the most famous of recent times. Auburn has taken Alabama's championship away before in this game, and the Tigers get it at home this season. Nick Saban hardly ever loses, but this one has been one of his hardest ones in his career. Auburn needs this one to keep their playoff hopes alive. Will this be another memorable upset win for Auburn?

Virginia over Virginia Tech

The Hokies have struggled lately including last week's escape against Pitt. Virginia nearly upset Miami (FL) last week. This rivalry is always interesting especially because the Cavaliers are all over the map. If last week's performances are an indication of the result, then an upset should happen.

Texas A&M over LSU

Kevin Sumlin might need this one to keep his job. Good thing, this one is on the road. The Aggies under Sumlin have performed better on road against ranked teams than at home. Coach O and his Tigers have really bounced back after the Troy loss. If history repeats, an upset is likely.

Rutgers over Michigan State

Michigan State clearly is not as good as its ranking. Rutgers is improved this year and maybe moving in the right direction. An upset win would be huge for Chris Ash and his rebuilding process. Could the Spartans really fall to the Scarlet Knights?

M+J's College Football Upset Watch/Picks- Week 12

UPSET WATCH

Western Carolina over North Carolina

The Tar Heels host in state little brother, The Catamounts of Western Carolina. Its been a bad year for Larry Fedora and the Tar Heels. The 7-4 Catamounts have had this game circled and will be fired up. Can the Tar Heels motivate themselves to beat Western Carolina? They need to take control early. The longer the game stays close, The Catamounts will gain confidence and the Tar Heels will feel butterflies in the stomach.

UAB over Florida

The Gators season has turned into a burning dumpster fire. Fired coached- check. 5 game losing streak- check. Loss to UAB in their first year back? Maybe. The Blazers are bowl eligible and playing with a lot of confidence and can put an explanation mark in their first year back with a win in the swamp. Can the Gators end their losing streak?

Wake Forest over NC State

The Deacs put up 64 points at the Carrier Dome last weekend and return home to host the Wolfpack. The Wolfpack can't win the ACC but can still earn a 10 win season. This weekend is a must win in order to reach 10 wins. With a lot of offensive confidence, John Wolford and company are looking to repeat last weekend.

Georgia Southern over South Alabama

Can the Eagles get their first win of the season? The Jaguars come to Statesboro this weekend with a chance of reaching bowl eligibility if they win out. The Eagles can ruin their opportunity with their first win of the season. Its possible as the Eagles will be playing with nothing to lose because when your winless, losing is the norm.

M+J's College Football Upset Watch/Picks- Week 11

UPSET WATCH

Stanford over Washington

The Cardinal are looking to bounce back and get back in the Pac-12 title race. A win here would keep them in the run for the Pac-12 North. Stanford is always difficult at home. Washington hasn't had a road test like this, so an upset could be looming.

Boston College over NC State

The Wolfpack are good but have not shown to be Top 25 good. The Eagles have been surging as of late and get to play this one at home in freezing cold weather. An upset seems likely here.

Baylor over Texas Tech

Baylor finally got on the win board last week as expected. Now, they get a Texas Tech team that has been limping as lately they have been unable to win lately. The Bears are improving which could be dangerous for Kingbury's job.

Iowa over Wisconsin

The Hawkeyes demolition of Ohio State last week was a shocker. Will they be able to keep this momentum into Wisconsin this week? This will be the Badgers toughest opponent yet.

Iowa State over Oklahoma State

The Cyclones nearly won at West Virginia last week ending their hot streak. With wins over Oklahoma and TCU, we know an upset is possible. Iowa State really needs this one to stay in the Big 12 Title hunt. The Cowboys do as well. Whoever wants it more will come out on top.

Army over Duke

Somehow Duke is the road favorite against the 7-2 Black Knights, who have been playing better each week. In comparison, Duke has played worse each week as it is hard to believe that this team beatdown Northwestern early one. On another note, Duke gets to play in frigid temperatures.

Georgia Tech over Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech did not look week at Miami(FL). Bad news is that they hit the road again. This time, it is at Georgia Tech. Judging by the Hokies performance on the road last week, this could be a dangerous trap in front of the Yellow Jacket fans.

Utah over Washington State

Washington State showed at California that they can be vulnerable on the road. Utah has been close in their conference losses this season and is due another win. If Utah can keep Falk to average numbers, an upset could be in the bag.

M+J's College Football Upset Watch/Picks- Week 10

UPSET WATCH

Texas A&M over Auburn

The Aggies are looking to bounce back after a bad showing last weekend against Mississippi State. Auburn has spoiling Alabama and Georgia's seasons on their mind and thinking SEC Championship. This could be a trap game for the Tigers. The Aggies offense will be the key to their success. If they can score against Auburn, they will give themselves a chance to win. Auburn needs to take control early or they might find themselves in a dog fight with Texas A&M's raucous 12th Man in the 4th quarter.

NC State over Clemson

The Wolfpack were so close last year and have had this one circled since then. The opportunity is there for the Wolfpack to end Clemson's chances to repeat. The Tigers bounced back against Georgia Tech but now travel to Raleigh for a big Atlantic Division showdown. A NC State win puts Clemson two games behind the Wolfpack in the Atlantic Division standings giving them complete control of their own destiny. Bradley Chubb has been the x-factor for the NC State defense and will be a headache for the Clemson offensive line. Expect a defensive game coming down to whichever offensive line can shutdown the defensive line from making plays. Should be an great one in Raleigh.

Southern Miss over Tennessee

The Volunteers have struggled and Butch Jones is on the hot seat. The pressure is on the Volunteers this weekend as the Golden Eagles come to Knoxville. Can Tennessee develop any rhythm on offense? This is the same team that almost beat Kentucky week one. Southern Miss will not be afraid.  The Volunteers need to develop momentum early and try to take early control. The longer the game favors Southern Miss, the more pressure builds up for Butch Jones. A loss for Tennessee would likely end Butch Jones' tenure at Tennessee.

Virginia Tech over Miami (FL)

Mark Richt has gotten Miami back on the football map. However, they have had many close calls and really haven't played any teams as good as Virginia Tech. The Hokies are looking to get the ACC Championship as Miami poses as their biggest threat in the Coastal Division. The Hurricanes have an opportunity the next two weeks to prove to the Selection Committee they are better than their #10 ranking. There should be a lot of defense with the a quarterback leading his team to victory late in the 4th. With almost identical stats for QB's Josh Jackson and Malik Rosier, which one leads their team to victory?

Arizona over USC

Khalil Tate has arguably been this year's Sam Darnold. Last year, Darnold turned USC's season around after becoming the starting QB game 4. This year Tate became starter in game 5 and has turned the young Wildcats into a competitor in the Pac-12 with incredible offensive numbers and 4 consecutive wins. As the quarterbacks headline this battle, USC's RB Ronald Jones and Arizona's RB JJ Taylor are coming off big games from last weekend. This game will likely come down to the defense that can create turnovers and more stops. Expect a higher scoring and very entertaining game worth staying up to watch. The winner takes control of the Pac-12 South.

M+J's College Football Upset Watch/Picks- Week 9

UPSET WATCH

Baylor over Texas

The Bears were so close last weekend at home against West Virginia only losing by 2 points. On the other side, the Longhorns were so close against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Both teams have improved since the start of the year. Baylor gets Kansas next week, the team they know they can beat and the Longhorns travel to Fort Worth next weekend to take on TCU. Since the Bears are winless on the season, could the Longhorns be looking ahead to next week? Are the Bears looking ahead to next weekend? Whichever team is more focused on the current game will get it done.

UMass over Appalachian State

The Minutemen destroyed Georgia Southern last weekend and looked very confident on offense. In a game that cost Georgia Southern coach Tyson Summers his job, are the Minutemen poised to build from last weekend? The Mountaineers come to Amherst and are arguably the best team in the Sun Belt as Georgia Southern might be the worst team in FBS. UMass has been in every game this season. They will need a repeat of last week if they want to have a chance to the pull the upset.

Arizona over Washington State

Khalil Tate vs Luke Falk. This should be a great battle of quarterbacks in Tucson. The Wildcats have won three in a row with Tate at Quarterback. He has quickly put together insane rushing numbers along with having the best QBR for two weeks in a row and having the 4th best last weekend. All of sudden Tate has given the Wildcats hope to get to the Pac-12 Championship. Falk has had a great career with the Cougars and is one of the best passers in the country. The Cougars are also looking to get to the Pac-12 Championship. Will defense be a factor? The Cougars defensive line and the Wildcats secondary will be important as which ever can produce more stops, will likely help lead their team to victory.

Arizona State over USC

The Sun Devils defense has been a surprise the last couple weeks as they have only allowed 17 points. The Sun Devils are playing with confidence on defense and look to spoil USC's chances to win the Pac-12. The Trojans were blown out in South Bend last week and are likely out of the playoff. They are still in position to get the Pac-12 Championship, but the next two weeks they meet two teams who are have rejuvenated their seasons- Arizona State and Arizona. Can the Trojans bounce back? Sam Darnold and company has to limit their turnovers if they want to win in Tempe.

West Virginia over Oklahoma State

The Mountaineers get the Cowboys in Morgantown. The Cowboys escaped Austin with a win and need to be better on offense this weekend. This should be another entertaining battle of quarterbacks. Will Grier is starting to stiff the Heisman conversation as Mason Rudolph is currently a contender. The Cowboys get the Sooners in the Bedlam Rivalry next weekend and need to focus on West Virginia first. This could be a trap game for the Cowboys.   Game will likely come down to the quarterback who can make a big play late. Should be a good one in Morgantown.

M+J's Heisman Trophy Watch- Week 9

Saquon Barkley- RB- Penn State
Barkley's rushing yards are not the greatest, but his all purpose yards are. He shown to be a threat not just as a rusher but as a receiver and returner on special teams. Barkley has consistently shown he is a Heisman candidate by being possibly the most valuable player in FBS. His team is also in the race for the College Football Playoff. He led his team in a beatdown of Michigan with over 100 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns.

Up next: Ohio State

Bryce Love- RB- Stanford
Bryce Love has soared recently and the margin between him and Barkley is thin. He leads FBS in rushing by a landslide with 1,387 yards with an amazing 10.3 yards per carry. The Cardinal control the Pac-12 North which helps Love's chance. A trip to Oregon State could really help boost his stats.

Up next: Oregon State

3 Jonathan Taylor- RB- Wisconsin
One of the main reasons the Badgers have ran through there schedule without a punch has been Jonathan Taylor. Wisconsin has not been great, but Taylor has certainly shined so far. This Freshman has led the currently undefeated Badgers with 1,112 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns.

Up next: Illinois

Baker Mayfield- QB- Oklahoma
Mayfield has looked great all season. Even in the shocking loss to Iowa State, Mayfield posted strong numbers going 24 for 33 with 306 yards and 2 touchdowns. However, it is important that he keeps his team in the Playoff race as it is clear the running backs are taking over.

Up next: Texas Tech

5 Josh Adams- RB- Notre Dame
Adams had been posting great numbers all season but has been flying under the radar with the other running backs mentioned here. This was until USC came to town. Adams rushed for 191 yards with 3 touchdowns proving that the Irish are a College Playoff Contender with a beatdown of USC.

Up next: NC State

Next 5

- Lamar Jackson- QB- Louisville
- Mason Rudolph- QB- Oklahoma State
- Luke Falk QB- Washington State

M+J's College Football Upset Watch/Picks- Week 8

UPSET WATCH

Houston over Memphis

A tough road trip ahead for newly ranked ranked Memphis going to Houston. This is a top tier battle in AAC where Ed Oliver returns to the field after missing the blowout loss to Tulsa. This game will show how important he is when Houston pull the minor upset.

Idaho over Missouri

Missouri has been awful this season. Not only has their offense struggled once again, their defense has been like paper. Idaho has not been great but did almost upset App State last week. Overall, it is a pretty lousy game, but if Missouri plans to sleepwalk, they may be awaken with a surprising loss.

Texas over Oklahoma State

Texas has shown signs of a tough out. Put this team in front of a hungry group of Longhorns fans excited for the opportunity to spoil Mason Rudolph and company's season, and this team has the pieces to pull an upset here. Will the Cowboys maintain their composure and be ready to play in this hostile environment? This should be a great game that could go either way.

Eastern Michigan over Western Michigan

Eastern Michigan once again fell just short in their upset bid at Army. This time, their in state rivals from Kalamazoo come to town. The Eagles have shown that they are better than their record, so the Broncos better be ready. This game seems like a likely upset

Syracuse over Miami (FL)

The Orange pulled one of the biggest upsets of the season when Clemson came to town last Friday. Miami (FL) had to escape at the last minute at home against GA Tech. Will the Orange carry their momentum and knock off another unbeaten? If both teams play like last week, Syracuse might do it. Of course, the same team that lost to Middle Tennessee may show up.

M+J's College Football Upset Watch/Picks- Week 7

UPSET WATCH

Last week the Projected Blowout of the Week turned into the Biggest Upset of the Week. What games will be the stories of Week 7? Who's on Upset Alert?

Texas over Oklahoma

Texas is starting to play better as they beat K-State last week. Oklahoma fell victim to one of the biggest upsets of the season last week. Will the Sooners have a hangover from last week's game? This rivalry is usually a good game. A win here and the Longhorns might be trending back to the football power they once were.

West Virginia over Texas Tech

This would not be much of an upset, but Texas Tech is ranked and WVU is not. The game is played in Morgantown, and the Mountaineers need a good win. A minor upset seems possible.

Maryland over Northwestern

Somehow Northwestern is road favorite here. Maryland not only has a better record but has a win over Texas and their only losses are to ranked opponents. Northwestern's only wins are against Bowling Green and Nevada, which are two of the worst FBS teams this season. This seems like a sure bet here for those looking to risk some.

Memphis over Navy

Navy is ranked and undefeated entering this game at Memphis, which was already a site for one upset this season. The Tigers are pretty good though with their only loss to UCF. The home field advantage seems like it could be a difference maker here. Although if Navy controls the pace and stays in front, the Midshipmen likely survive.

Eastern Michigan over Army

The Eagles have lost 3 straight in which were all narrow defeats that went right down to the end. Army's ground attack has been lethal this season. However, their best win is a narrow home over Buffalo. Eastern Michigan has already won at Rutgers and was very close at Kentucky. If the Eagles can learn to close, an upset could be brewing here.

Indiana over Michigan

Michigan did not look well against the Spartans last week. In general, the Wolverines have not been very dominant this year. The Hoosiers are not the punching bag they usually are. Of course, Ohio State and Penn State did not have trouble, but it is still an improved Indiana team. If the Wolverines struggle to score again, they will find themselves in another close game where a hungry Hoosiers team will be anxious for this upset.
